Mackerel Escabeche


Mackerel is a truly remarkable fish, prolific around our coast, high in omega 3, and has a fantastic flavour. All our Mackerel are line caught, the most sustainable method of fishing

We prepare this dish at the fish deli.
It is quick and easy and can be served hot or cold.


Mackerel fillets

Plain flour

Olive oil

1 sliced red onion

2 cloves of garlic

1 red chilli

1 lime

1 orange

Chopped coriander



  1. Dip the mackerel fillets in a little seasoned plain flour. Shallow fry your mackerel fillets in olive oil until golden and cooked through, keep warm, and set aside.
  2. Gently heat a  generous amount of olive oil, add red onion, chopped garlic and a small red chilli, deseeded (optional) gently cook.
  3. Add zest and juice of 1 lime,1 orange and finish with   a good handful of chopped coriander
  4. Add the mackerel fillets to the sauce and let it bubble together for a few minutes.
  5. Serve on a bed of mashed potato
